February 2014

Marino is a newly designated Community Special School in the heart of Bray. The school is delighted to finally open a long-awaited Multisensory Room. Simon Harris T.D. officially opened the new facility on Monday 17th February, joined by various members of the school community to celebrate the occasion. The Board of Management is committed to developing school facilities appropriately to provide students with suitable state of the art resources and facilities which will contribute significantly to their educational experience. All local students, attending Marino School will benefit from these facilities.

Adam and Friends designed and installed this new multisensory room in Marino Community Special School. The availability of the multisensory room has benefits for students of all ages. This sensory room uses light, sound and a range of specialised equipment (including bubble tube, infinity tunnel, projector, star ceiling) to create a calm environment for relaxation. There are switches which allow our students with restricted mobility, to interact with the equipment and have control over their choice of preferred activity.

Staff and students certainly welcome the provision of a multisensory room and can already see benefits for numerous students attending Marino School. The Board of Management would like to acknowledge the generous donations from The Quinn Family in memory of Gary, who was a past pupil of Marino. Local Artists contributed generously following their Art Exhibition in October and Sadhbh Dempsey set up her own Mini Company to raise funds for the Multisensory Room in her sister’s school. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this new multisensory room become a reality.
